Short Biography
Born in Ramat Gan, Israel in 1978, Oren Livne received his B.A. degree (Summa Cum Laude)
in applied mathematics from the Technion in 1994,
and his Ph.D. in applied mathematics from the
Weizmann Institute of Science in 2000. During 2000-2002
he was a Visiting Scientist at Weizmann as well as an
Israel Defense Forces Officer at the
Directorate of Defense Research and Development.
Oren worked as a Radar Systems Research and Development Staff Scientist at
ELTA - Israel Aircraft Industries (1998-1999) and
as a Printed Circuit Board Testing Research and Development Staff Scientist at
Orbotech, Ltd. (2001-2002).
He was an Individualized Computerized Units (ICUs) Developer for
Israel's Ministry of Education
(1998-2000). He held two postdoctoral fellowships at Stanford University
(with Prof. Gene Golub, 2002-2004), and at the
Scientific Computing & Imaging Institute at the
University of Utah (2004-2006). Oren is currently Research Assistant
Professor at the Department of Mathematics,
University of Utah, concurrently working at the
Continuing Education Division on
RUReady.
Oren has published 15 scholarly journal papers in applied mathematics, natural languages and
mathematics education. He has been awarded the Manchester Who's Who as an Honored Member (2006-07);
Who's Who in America: Award of Recognition for Research Achievement, 2006;
Paper Excellence Award, Eleventh
Copper Mountain Conference on Multigrid Methods
(2003); and The Dimitris N. Chorafas Foundation Prize
for Engineering and Technology (2000).
He is a member of the
Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) since 2004.
Oren is RUReady's software architect of and the
inventor of its Advanced Mathematical Expression Parsing System.
He and his colleagues (N. Livne & C. Wight) have recently been awarded a U.S.
Provisional Patent Application on the program:
System and Method for Academic Evaluation and Education (Docket No.
25702.PROV, filed January 2006).
